Travel Budget Calculator

Estimate a trip from the prices you have been quoted. Every line of the arithmetic is shown, and nothing you enter leaves this page.

Runs in your browser. Your entries are not saved or sent.

How to use it

Enter a value or an explicit 0 for every line. A blank field means the cost is unknown, not zero, and the result stays an incomplete estimate until it is filled in.

Enter taxes and fees as the total you were quoted for the whole stay. Contingency starts at 10 percent and can be changed. Refundable deposits are added to the cash you need, not to the expense.

Result

Enter your figures and select Calculate. The full arithmetic appears here.

How the estimate is calculated

  • room = n × r (nights × nightly room rate)
  • parking = d × p (parking days × daily parking)
  • meals = m × f (meal days × daily meals)
  • subtotal = room + parking + meals + t + a + l + o (taxes and fees, long-distance travel, local transport, other)
  • contingency = round_half_up(subtotal × c / 100, 2)
  • expense_total = subtotal + contingency
  • cash_envelope = expense_total + q (refundable deposits)

Amounts are converted to whole cents before calculating, and only the contingency is rounded, to the nearest cent, half up. Contingency is never applied to deposits.

Limitations

Based only on your entries. Prices and assistance are not verified here.

The cash envelope is a conservative planning total, not a prediction of when a card will be charged. Treatment fees, lost wages and insurance benefits are outside the default calculation.
