Make the comparison equivalent
A hospital patient rate and a booking-site rate may have different room categories, benefits and cancellation conditions. Compare the same property, dates, occupancy and room type where possible. If those differ, record the differences before deciding which offer has better value for your situation.
Ask how the patient rate is booked
Some rates are reached through a hospital link or require a particular reservation process. Confirm eligibility and the current booking route with the center or hotel. Do not assume that entering a hospital name into any booking site activates a negotiated rate.
Include every cost you know
Compare the room total, taxes and mandatory fees, parking, transport, laundry and any other costs that differ. Keep refundable deposits separate from nonrefundable expenses. A refundable deposit can affect the cash you need at booking even if it is not part of the final expected cost.
Read change terms before choosing
Check the cancellation deadline, modification charges and what happens if the stay is shortened or extended. Ask the party taking the reservation who handles support. If you book through a third party, the hotel may direct some changes back to that booking provider.
Choose with the facts in front of you
Use our lodging cost comparison to compare the numbers you have collected. An affiliate link is one possible booking route, not a claim that it offers the lowest rate. We may earn a commission from an eligible booking through a labeled link. Official patient-rate and assistance routes remain available regardless of commission.
